Waste & Recycled
"Recycled water projects are key to a resilient water future, but they require innovative financing models to scale." - ASCE
The Problem
The Recommendation
Wastewater and recycled water projects often struggle with long-term financing due to high initial capital costs and regulatory uncertainty.
Municipalities may lack access to credit or financing mechanisms to expand recycled water programs, and utilities often face challenges in securing grants for recycled water projects, even though demand is increasing.
Expanding access to green bonds, revolving loan funds, and state revolving funds (SRFs) can provide municipalities with the resources to implement recycled water systems. Securing grants for innovative technologies that enhance water reuse is another key strategy.
